We live in a world where probabilities are a constant factor. When I first talked about AI and its implications, the main question was whether AI would come after us. While the question remains the same, my answer has changed due to increased probabilities. It is more likely that AI will replace human judgment in certain areas over time.
Talking about complex technology, the answer is not simple and depends on several factors such as intelligence, job replacement, anticipation of AGI, and identifying AI capabilities and limitations.
Redundancy of jobs is becoming a fast reality due to the increasing reach of automation opportunities by Generative AI. Certain jobs are more susceptible to automation than others, while the creation of new jobs in fields like healthcare, science, and technology is anticipated. However, the impact of job replacement must also be considered.
The possibility of AGI, when machines gain sentience and awareness, is a complicated subject that is not under the scope of this article.
Machines are capable enough to help humans identify patterns at scale and achieve efficiencies, however, they lack empathy and moral compass. They may learn patterns from data but do not have the intelligence to handle human issues.
In summary, AI can replace human brains but not beings. Vidhi Chugh is an AI strategist and digital transformation leader. She is striving to make machine learning accessible to everyone.
